Loaf of Bread, Images and Positives from the Vision Project

These images below were to explore similarities between the past and the current world we live in, with the main Idea of Oppression. And to include themes of Public Resistance, Socialism, & Corporatism - which is slowly taking over. The piece is actually a revision of an early piece by Pablo Picasso, called Woman with Loaf of bread and the idea of his painting is to show the relationship of the peasant & and the changing modernization of the world.

This has given me a starting point for unit two, which is to explore the theme of portraits with objects added to develop meaning. My main contextual source is Gillian Wearing with her use of signs as a tools for the subject to express them selves. For this work I intent to focus on self portraiture and different alternative processes.

Task 3: Health & Safety

Task 4: depth of field

For this task I again consulted the Google, for a definition of depth of field, here Ive gathered together different Images taken with different formats of film and cameras, each of them contain either long or shallow depth of field.

The first 3 were shot on a Polaroid 104, using FB100c Fujifilm instant film.

This one was shot with a point and shoot Cosmic symbol camera, judging by the image I'd say the speed at the time was 250 and the aperture was 22.

This a pinhole test of a fellow student, which hasn't really worked instead of picking up on the student It has captured the pinhole, to make this image have a short depth of field.

Task 9: Macro

Task 9 Macroni Cheese. These camera shots were of a small Jesus statue, that I own. I used the studio and I blackout and turned of all the lights, and added a white light spot light, Throughout I used long exposure times and small and wide apertures, to experiment and test to achieve some really nice Images.

So this image had an ISO of 800, a speed of 5 second and an aperture 5.6

This is my favorite, images at the time I used an ISO of 400, a speed of 250 and an aperture of 11.

I like this one aswell, especially because of the green light almost creating a smoky effect around the object. Here I used an ISO of 400 a speed of 100 and an aperture of 11

The rest below are just tests, with Light, ISO, Speed, & Aperture. They work as experiments to show the constant change in my work.

Task 6: ISO

Task 6 was to explore ISO. QUICK FACT , ISO stands for International Standards Organization, and works with the aperture on letting the right amount of light through the shutter. All images below had a repeated, shutter speed of 1/60,and an Aperture - f4.0.

Task 1: Settings of the Camera

These are the setting and basic layout of a digital camera and a film camera. To start we have and example of an Cannon 1100D.

And here we have my camera an Porst SLR FX4 and its settings and features.

Task 2: Photographic Genres that I'm interested in

Press photography/ Photojournalism

Press photographers take photographs to record news, current events and lifestyle stories. Their aim is to capture the best images in order to document an event, tell a story or convey a message. The pictures are then reproduced in newspapers, magazines and, increasingly, niche-market, web-based publications.
Press photographers sometimes specialise in a particular field, such as sport, current events or entertainment. The market is very competitive and many work on a freelance basis, using good business skills to sell their photographs to news agencies or publications.

Press photography requires a combination of intuition, creativity and technical skills. Tasks commonly include:
  • working closely with other people concerned with the story, such as journalists and picture editors, and agreeing the photographic requirements for a story;
  • explaining technical photographic terminology to non-photographers;
  • handling relevant administrative arrangements, such as timing, press passes, transport and access to restricted areas, venues and events;
  • photographing events or personalities, noting details for photographic captions;
  • adding relevant keywords to image files relating to the photographic content for library sites so the image is recognised in search engines;
  • ensuring that all pictures are appropriate, processed, catalogued and ready in time to meet deadlines;
  • preparing and sending digital photographs for newspaper publication to deadline;
  • maintaining up-to-date knowledge about current news stories and any specialist areas;
  • sourcing freelance photographers for a job or sourcing existing photographs if pushed to meet a deadline;
  • arranging lighting and other requirements for magazine studio shoots;
  • checking weather forecast and light values of areas and venues beforehand;
  • maintaining photographic and electronic communications equipment.
Portrait Photography

Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person's face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.

Commercial Photography

Commercial photography is photographic work done for commercial purposes, such as for magazine advertising, corporate publications, brochures, restaurant menus, etc. On a basic level, commercial photography involves a client that wants to sell or promote something for which they need photographs taken.
Commercial photographs fall into many categories:
* Photos may be taken of a product a business is trying to sell, such as a car or a piece of furniture. * Some businesses, like sports teams or real estate firms, may need aerial photography to show their stadium or property in an attractive way. * Architectural photography may be needed by a commercial builder or architect. * Photographs of food are seen everywhere from fast food menus to ads in culinary magazines. * And of course, most people are familiar with fashion photography, which appears in magazines, on billboards, on TV, and many other places.

Editorial Photography

Is simply said to be a photography that supports the printed word. That may be either news or advertising.

As many readers may mistake this to be is type of a commercial for a product specially for fashion articles that needs visual to give the reader a perspective of what the article is all about. You might say it's a way also to attract readers to buy the magazine or news paper.

Task 8: Double Exposure

These are Double exposures taken with a Large format Press Camera (4x5) on Positive paper. To compose these images I used a darkly lit studio, with a constant warm light and a synced flash, I also played around with the speeds and apertures to achieve these out comes.

With this image, I exposed it twice, once in the studio with a print screen and the other in broad daylight with another fellow student (Helen). in the studio the speed was 200, and the aperture was 5.6 and outside the speed was the same but the aperture was 11.

 This images is slightly different I had the model move halfway through the exposure. So I had the speed set at 15 seconds and aperture of 5.6. I then used a flash at 12 seconds, to give a last input of light, I like to think of it as a little experiment.

This is a good image, and a good test in the studio, I used a constant light to have a brightly lit studio with no flash. The settings of the camera are 200 speed and an aperture of 22 so I could end up with a slightly under exposed images.

Task 5: Camera Angles

Task 5 was to explore camera angles, not truly know of such magic I consulted google for a definition and example of images using different camera angles. There a 8 in total, all of the images shot below have a ISO of 400 and an Aperture of 16.
